About AVS Australia

AVS Australia has forged a long-term partnership with IAMS Limited in New Zealand to secure the BEST® system, a range of engineering tools and services that provides a holistic approach to structural wood pole assessment, for Australia.

AVS assessments are based on noninvasive and nondestructive methods (TMXScan) and allow the user to assess serviceability on the basis of actual pole loadings. Handheld devices are used by field inspectors for data capture and analysis. Desktop design of existing, new or replacement structures can be carried out without the need for site visits by engineers. Full compliance with Australian Standards AS 4676 and ESAA C(b)1 is assured.

The BEST® system is objective, reproducible and accurate, and eliminates all subjectivity from structure assessment. Baseline inspection using TMXScan can be undertaken by line inspectors at no greater cost than current work systems.

Data capture and residual structure strength quantification, provided by the AVS system, gives asset managers a comprehensive understanding of the serviceability of either a single structure or group of structures. The AVS system allows in-depth analysis of any number of structures from a single pole up to an entire distribution system. Moreover, the system is comprehensive, with AVS being able to provide all training, mentoring, audit, data analysis and support services.

Key results of this comprehensive analysis are detailed in, but not limited to, the outputs below:

The residual strength of a line or asset (reduction of structural strength from original);

The serviceability of the structure based on 'factored strength' over 'factored load';
The serviceability index of a selected group of structures to model the serviceability of an asset population;
The line reliability measure of an asset;
The lineal rate of decay for the assessed assets and modelled population;
The value of staking the assessed assets;
The serviceability threshold for staking given a desired life extension period; and most importantly,
Forecast capital expenditure requirements for pole replacement activities.

"In collaboration with our partner and clients, we are proud of our achievements and the bring about of innovation in the electrical industry."
