Validating the hardness schedules in the Australian Standard AS1720 and the relationship between the timber’s MOR (Moment of Rupture). With the generous assistance of Bill Woods at Energy Australia, we are sourcing and preparing several pole samples that will then be milled into clear sections of wood. The sections will be tested with the AVS system for hardness and Moment of Rupture (MOR), and then bent to destruction in UIT’s Sydney laboratory. The data from these tests will validate the idealised data that our system uses from the Australian Standard. |

Last month we completed the finishing touches to the AVS Australia web site. The site includes information on the AVS (Best®) system and tools. It outlines products and services together with technical information on how the system works and it’s relationship with the Australian—New Zealand standards. AVS Australia brochures and demonstration videos can also be viewed. Please take a few minutes to visit and bookmark the site. |

Systems like ours are always evolving and we are delighted to announce that our next system enhancement is currently in development and is expected to be completed by the end of year. This exciting enhancement will include modelling the entire pole for serviceability. More details will be provided in the next newsletter—watch this space! |

As you know, the Best® asset assessment system has been a success story in Vector (New Zealand). To ensure our system is technically accepted in Australia we are vigorously pursuing third party system validation and endorsement. To that end, work has commenced with Keith Crews, Associate Professor at the University of Technology in Sydney, on a verification and endorsement project. There are two key elements to this project. They are: |

We are analysing data on approximately 1050 pole cross sections from the 1998 NDE study in NSW conducted by Keith Crews. This project will establish the correlation between ground line deterioration as measured with TMXScan® and actual deterioration at 150 mm above and below ground. |
